CONCEPT VISUAL. PACKAGE STYLING IS THE REFERENCE. THE WRITTEN RULES AND COMPONENT LIST ON THIS PAGE ARE CURRENT.

Two-player tactical hidden-unit battle

COMING SOON

RANK

Hidden armies. Very visible mistakes.

Secretly deploy a small army, read the formation and break through before your opponent does.

You know where their army is. You just don’t know what any of it is.

How it works

PROTOTYPE RULES

Capture the opponent’s Flag — or leave them with no legal move.

  1. 1

    Set

Each player secretly builds a 3 × 4 formation using all 12 army cards, face-down.

  2. 2

    Move

Move one movable unit a single orthogonal space. Traps and Flags stay put.

  3. 3

    Attack

Reveal adjacent units. Higher rank normally wins, with simple Scout, Saboteur, Trap and Decoy exceptions.

  4. 4

    Capture the Flag

Clear a path and move a unit onto the opponent’s visible Flag. No legal movable units also means defeat.

RANK is an active prototype with a current 12-card army specification per player. Card counts shown in early concept imagery are not authoritative; the written component list here is current.

What makes it fun

You can see the whole army. That is not the same as knowing it.

The cards are the battlefield

Two hidden 3 × 4 formations create the map. No board required.

Information keeps changing

Surviving units stay face-up after combat, so every fight teaches both players something.

Simple hierarchy. Sharp exceptions.

Scout beats General. Saboteur disarms Traps. Decoy exists mostly to make you nervous.

Every face-down card could be right

It usually isn’t.

Current prototype

Real rules. Still playtesting.

GENERAL — 5CAPTAIN — 4SOLDIER — 3SCOUT — 2SABOTEUR — 1TRAPDECOY

These are the current roles, units and effects. Early visual mockup text may differ; the written rules on this page take priority while balance is refined.

Prototype components for RANK

What’s in the prototype

Everything earns its spot.

  • 24 army cards — identical 12-card Green and Red armies
  • Per army: 1 General, 2 Captains, 3 Soldiers, 2 Scouts, 1 Saboteur, 2 Traps, 1 Decoy
  • 1 Green physical Flag
  • 1 Red physical Flag
  • Player-aid / rules cards

Counts and balance reflect the current written prototype. Final production details may change after playtesting.

LOOKS SIMPLE.

That’s usually what your opponent wants you to think.
